Looking for Information

Greetings, all.

My name is Xandria and I'm fairly new in this fandom. I'm not sure how involved I'm going to get, but I do have a few story ideas that I wish to write up. To that end, I was wondering if there was any such thing on the World Wide Web as a YnM Lexicon of sorts? (I have searched but could not find anything -- I did find a lovely essay on Watari though!).

One of the first little stories I think I'm going to write involves Watari. In particular, if there's some good information about his character as well as his abilities, I would be most eager to read them. One can only glean so much from translations, summaries and I have not seen the anime yet (although I do have it on order).

I hope my request isn't out of line or makes me seem like a terrible newbie. I really do wish to get as many of the facts as straight as possible.

Thanks very kindly.

X.

Hi there and welcome to the community! I recognize your name as you just emailed myself and Penny about KatCom!

I don't know of any YnM lexicon as such - I think the best character information available can be found at Theria.net and you'll get more information about Watari from the translations of the later (post- vol 11) chapters of YnM than anywhere else. The anime doesn't tell you anything about Watari that the manga doesn't, if I recall correctly. (The anime is pretty much a condensed version of vols 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 of the manga.)

Sorry I can't be more help! You might also want to check out the various Watari shrines in existence if you haven't already - the one that springs most immediately to mind is Complex.

There's a maddeningly ambigous hint about his backstory at
http://www.geocities.com/yamiflash/, it's the one that has to be viewed in fullscreen, can't remember the number, but it really tells you almost nothing. I highly recommend it for the glimpse of 70's!ponytail Watari, however. Yum.

Yeah, I was like, "Well, no helpful information...but guh."

There's not a Lexicon for the fandom (although I do believe one is in progress for the main ML), so you're probably as lost as the rest of us. *grins*

Btw- if you've read the translations, you're not going to learn anything new by watching the anime. Watari is, unfortunately, a very minor character there. I recommend [livejournal.com profile] katsue_fox's link. If you read Theria's translations, you'll know everything there is to know. And they're not as long as they might seem when you first glance at that page with all it's chapter titles. Since each chapter reduces to only a page or two in script-format, you breeze right through them. I read the whole thing in one evening my first time.

No worries, just do the best you can, its good that your researching before writing a fic first, I've seen many a fan who just leaps straight into writing having only watched the Anime and then wonder why thye have so many flames. The Anime is good but it leaves out a ton of the original manga (So wish the Hokkaido story had been animated -_-) As for sites ^-^;; everyone has already mentioned all the places I know, I'm just here to offer support [waves mini flag]Go Xandria go!

Also have to agree with Mistressrenet, gotta love that ponytail ^_~
